Former Things Are Passed Away by Larry Geraldson

Rev 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” The older I get…the more I long for my Savior to return. I wish I could say that my longing is driven by a forward expectation of things yet seen; “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away;” but I fear it is more an enthusiasm for things that shall pass away i.e. pain, sorrow, crying, death etc. I try to focus on the New Jerusalem with it’s streets of gold and gates of pearl and foundations of precious stones.  I know that I will be trilled to drink from the river that flows from the throne of God even though I never thirst and stand under the shade of trees that heal nations even though the light casts no shadow and causes no discomfort.  To walk on golden streets and live in a place where there is no curse, no night, nothing that defiles. However, right now, I just simply think about what will pass away. No more crying, no tears, no hurt, no dishonesty, no lies, no distrust, no deceptions, no disappointments, no mistakes, no pride, no devil, no desire to do wrong things, no more death, no more sickness, no more hospitals, no more doctors, no more medicine, no more treatments, no more pain, no more aching muscles, no more headaches, no more allergies, no more vitamins, no more healthy eating, no more overweight, no more underweight, no more hair loss, no more wrinkles, no more skin cancer, no more cancer of any kind. But, more practically, I rejoice that there will be no more leaky roofs or grass to mow. No more just getting by or just making ends meet. No more negotiating, debating, politicizing or juggling.  No more accidents, no more destruction. No slip-ups, no more, “Oh, no’s,” no wishing I could take it back, do it over or cover it up.  All is peace forevermore, on that happy golden shore….what a day, glorious day that will be.
